Keri Zakynthos is a small Greek community on the southern edge of Zakynthos Island. Set on steep cliffs, it offers breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea. As of 2011, the population was just 469, with 788 residents including nearby towns Limni Kerious, Marathias, and Apelati.
The village was heavily damaged by the 1953 Ionian earthquake, which affected Kefalonia and Zakynthos, resulting in significant loss and destruction. Today, Keri has fully recovered and is a popular tourist spot. While many prefer staying in areas like Laganas Beach, Keri remains a favored stop in Zakynthos itineraries.
Zakynthos is a small, well-loved tourist island in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece. It’s about 249 kilometers from Athens and around 20 kilometers west of the Greek mainland’s westernmost part. Keri Zakynthos is on Cape Marathia, 6 kilometers south of Lithakia and 15 kilometers southwest of Zante Town.
Despite its size, Keri has plenty to offer. The Keri Lighthouse is a notable landmark about a 15-minute walk from town, providing rich history and fantastic sea views. The cliffs, rising 300 meters from the sea, offer stunning views but require caution due to their height.
The Keri Caves, located at the island’s southern tip, are fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. Accessible only by water, you’d need a kayak or a tour to visit. They’re one of Keri’s top attractions.
The church in Keri provides stunning town views and has undergone renovations, initially in 1745 and again in 1953 due to earthquake damage.
Keri also boasts the world’s largest Greek flag according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Originally erected by a local restaurant to draw attention to the village, the flag is visible from almost anywhere in town.
For the best sunset views, the cliffs of Keri offer an ideal spot. You can enjoy a drink at local taverns or bring your own wine to a safe place on the cliff.
If you’re visiting the Keri Cliffs, the lighthouse offers excellent views of the Ionian Sea and the cliffs below. It’s a popular spot for photos and walks. For an unforgettable experience, visit at sunset.
Due to the cliffs, Keri itself doesn’t have beach access, so you’ll need to drive to nearby beaches. Zakynthos is home to some of Greece’s best beaches, including the famous Navagio Beach.

Zakynthos is celebrated for its natural attractions like Shipwreck Cove and historical sites. Keri offers more than just its lighthouse and cliffs; it has excellent accommodations and restaurants, making it worth a visit for more than just a photo stop.
For a more relaxed experience away from crowds, especially after sunset, Keri Village could be a great choice. Definitely visit for the lighthouse and enjoy sunset drinks over the cliffs.
