Puerto Vallarta After Dark: Top Bars and Clubs for 2023

Puerto Vallarta After Dark: Top Bars and Clubs for 2023

Let’s explore the amazing nightlife in Puerto Vallarta! This guide is perfect for those who love to party.

Puerto Vallarta, located in Banderas Bay on the Pacific Coast, has gorgeous beaches, vibrant culture, and a fun nightlife. It’s a top destination in Mexico. While many think of it as a spring break spot, there’s more to its nightlife than just tequila shots at Señor Frogs. You’ll find plenty of fun bars that aren’t overpriced tourist traps.

In Puerto Vallarta, you can choose from relaxed beach bars, hidden cocktail spots, local craft breweries, LGBT-friendly bars, and lively nightclubs. Every night offers something new, and there’s so much to explore.

I’ve lived in Puerto Vallarta on and off for over six years, and I’ve done plenty of “research” for this guide — from sipping margaritas on the beach to enjoying live bands at night. So, let’s dive into the best of Puerto Vallarta nightlife.

Puerto Vallarta nightlife often starts during the day because it’s a beach town. Many beach bars are on Los Muertos Beach. Some require a minimum spend to use their umbrellas and loungers, but I’m recommending spots that don’t have this requirement and offer reasonable prices.

First up, Swell Beach Bar, located just south of the pier on Los Muertos. It’s perfect for a casual lunch and drinks. Enjoy a margarita and some ceviche with your feet in the sand. You can even get a massage on the beach. If you get bored, there are watersports like parasailing and paddleboarding to keep you busy. Swell closes at sunset, so you can either freshen up for the night or take a rest.

For dinner and drinks on the beach, check out Cuates y Cuetes. They have a few tables in the sand with a great view of the sunset and pier. It’s popular, so reservations are recommended. They offer live music at 8 PM, making it a great start to your night out.

Another top pick is El Solar, my local bar and a fantastic spot for beachside nightlife. It’s busy both day and night, with live music on weekends and Sunday afternoons. Try the jalapeño mezcalita and get ready to rock.

Puerto Vallarta is very LGBT-friendly with many hotels and bars catering to LGBT travelers. The city holds a large pride week every May. Most LGBT-friendly bars are in the Romantic Zone, known as PV’s “gay-borhood.” Notable spots include Blue Chairs Rooftop Bar, famous for its events like karaoke and drag queen bingo, and Mr. Flamingo, always a fun and vibrant nightspot. La Noche offers “3 floors of fun” with pulsating house music, go-go dancers, and a rooftop garden.

If you love craft beer, Puerto Vallarta has you covered. Monzon Brewing is a favorite, offering creative beers like coconut stouts and jalapeño margaritas. They host trivia nights and have a Mosaic Room with several TVs. Los Muertos Brewing is another great spot for pizza, beer, and sports, with pints at just 35 pesos during Happy Hour.

For something different, check out El Colibri, a hidden gem with a jungle vibe and innovative cocktails. They often have DJs playing on weekends. Twisted Palms is known for its Martini Madness Mondays and rooftop setting. Bar La Playa is another favorite, near Lazaro Cardenas Park, offering friendly bartenders and tasty cocktails.

Sports fans will enjoy El Torito, a staple since 1982, famous for its BBQ ribs and sports broadcasts. Players is perfect for transitioning from a beach day to nightlife with reasonably priced drinks and live music. El Soñador is a personal favorite, especially for watching fights or big games on their rooftop terrace.

If live music is your thing, visit Incanto, a piano bar with a variety of events, including open mic nights and salsa lessons. Roxy Rock House is another great spot for rock music in the heart of the party district. For a fun karaoke experience, head to Kooky Karaoke, where you can sing your heart out with props like neon wigs and air guitars.

For those who prefer nightclubs, Co-De is a newcomer with impressive light shows and aerialists. Strana in the Hotel Zone offers a full-on club experience with bottle service. On the Malecon, you’ll find big nightclubs like Mandala, La Vaquita, and Zoo, each with special events and late-night parties.

There you have it, the best of Puerto Vallarta nightlife. Whether you want a wild night of tequila shots and dancing or a relaxed evening with craft cocktails and live music, Puerto Vallarta has something for everyone. Plan to spend at least a week to fully enjoy all that this amazing place has to offer.
