Accommodation Highlight: Hotel Las Palmas in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is a small Caribbean island just a short distance from Cancun, known for its relaxed vibe. Most people navigate around on golf carts, and you’ll find a mix of restaurants, hotels, and tour businesses lining its pristine beaches. If you’re planning a visit, you’ll want to stay somewhere that matches the island’s serene beauty.

One place that stands out is Hotel Las Palmas. It perfectly blends the charm of budget travel with the comforts of luxury accommodations. During our stay, we opted for the King Room, which cost $100 per night. However, for those on a tighter budget, there are rooms available for $65 per night. Our room was spacious, clean, and bright, with large windows on two sides.

The bathroom was another highlight, featuring a fantastic shower with consistently hot, high-pressure water. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was decorated tastefully, complete with a mural, TV, fridge, and ample furniture to make it feel homely.

Safari, the owner’s daughter, warmly welcomed us and provided all the information we needed about the hotel and the island. Kate, the owner, was equally kind and took an interest in our lifestyle and blog. Although some of the cleaning staff didn’t speak English, they were always friendly and greeted us with a smile.

The location of Hotel Las Palmas is hard to beat unless you’re staying directly on the beach. It’s conveniently situated across from some fantastic street food stands and a vibrant fruit and vegetable market. Playa Norte, the island’s best beach, is just a three-minute walk away. Numerous excellent restaurants are also within a short distance from the hotel.

Las Palmas is well-equipped with amenities to make your stay enjoyable. There’s a small pool, a large guest kitchen, hammocks, games, wi-fi, massage treatments, and they even provide free coolers and large towels for beach trips. During our stay, the wi-fi in the rooms was down, but it worked fine in the common areas.

The hotel has plenty of communal spaces, including a rooftop terrace with a pool and a four-poster bed perfect for relaxing or stargazing. The terrace also features a fully stocked kitchen and offers snacks, beverages, and other items on an honor system where guests pay by leaving money in a tin can.

We noticed they were expanding by building a new area on a higher terrace and can’t wait to see how it turns out. If you’re looking for a place that offers the comfort of a hotel with the communal feel of a hostel, Hotel Las Palmas is ideal.

In terms of value, the rates at Hotel Las Palmas are excellent. Budget hostels on the island typically charge around $50-$60 USD per night for private rooms, making Las Palmas a great deal. Here are the rates:

– One King Bed: $100 per night
– Two Double Beds: $100 per night
– King Bed with Bunk-beds: $100 per night
– King with Street-view Balcony Room: $110 per night
– Budget Room (One Double Bed) for one person: $50 per night
– Budget Room (One Double Bed) for two people: $65 per night

Penthouse Rooms:
– Original Dream: $120 per night
– Mexican Dream: $130 per night
– Room with a View: $150 per night

Hotel Las Palmas remains one of the best hotels we’ve experienced since we started traveling in 2008. The communal areas, rooftop terrace, comfortable bed, and unique vibe make it stand out. Safari and Kate have created an oasis that perfectly complements the peacefulness of Isla Mujeres. After checking out other hotels on the island, Las Palmas was undoubtedly the best. If you’re visiting Isla Mujeres, staying at Hotel Las Palmas is a must.
