New York has such an enormous influence on the world that it’s rightfully called the “microcosm of the universe.” Naturally, a place this grand leads to the question: where should you stay when visiting?
Having lived in New York since 2015, I can’t see myself anywhere else. Visitors often tell me that New York is their dream destination. I might be biased, but I truly believe New York is the best city in the world and hope every visitor feels the same.
In this guide, I’ll share my favorite activities in New York and recommend the best places to stay. While a weekend trip might suffice for some, I suggest staying 5-7 days to explore all five boroughs and the many vibrant neighborhoods. New York City is undoubtedly one of the best destinations in the US.
Best Areas to Stay in New York
For first-time visitors aiming to see iconic attractions like Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall, the Theater District is the ideal neighborhood. It’s also my top recommendation for those wanting to stay in the city’s heart. The Times Square subway station, the largest in the network, makes getting around easy, and taxis are plentiful if public transit isn’t for you. Staying here makes a central meeting point for groups.
The Theater District is one of New York’s liveliest areas, showing why the city is known as “the city that never sleeps.” It’s a top-notch spot, though prices are higher due to its tourist-heavy nature. If it’s your first visit and you can afford it, a little splurge here is worth it!
